1. Position: Chair of Nursing Division

2. Contract: Faculty; 12 Months; there is no required per semester teaching load, rather, it is assigned on an as needed basis. Employment will begin July 1, 2014

3. Duties:

The Chair of the Nursing Division provides leadership for Nursing Programs to meet state and national requirements and to excel in meeting established Program Outcomes.

Division Chairpersons report directly to the Executive Vice President for Instruction (EVP). Duties include supervising the operation of the Division—developing curriculum, faculty hiring and supervision, budgeting, scheduling, and managing other divisional activities; teaching a reduced load; and participating in professional development and campus governance activities.

A.     Supervising the Curriculum

Maintain a current master file of course syllabi offered with the division.Participate in existing program review as determined by:

■     the cycle approved by the College Curriculum Committee

■     a directive from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education

■     an accreditation requirement

Provide leadership in the development of new academic program proposals.Represent the division to the College Curriculum Committee for the adoption of new courses.Provide academic leadership within the division in deleting courses that no longer attract students or that are no longer appropriate for degree requirements.Coordinate appropriate parts of the division's curriculum with what is being taught at area high schools and with what is needed for students to continue their formal education at a four-year institution.

Work with division faculty to determine entry-level skills for both courses and programs.Meet annually with external advisory committees regarding divisional occupational programs.

B.     Assisting in Faculty Appointments

Appoint all adjunct faculty each semester.Assist in the selection of new full-time faculty in their division by chairing an authorized search committee. Implicit in this charge are:

■     developing an advertisement for the faculty position

■     organizing the search committee

■     reviewing all applications

■     setting up interviews

■     completing the historical file

■     notifying all applicants

■     orient new faculty, full-time and part-time, to their academic division and to the College

C.     Evaluating Faculty

Provide the EVP with a written evaluation of all full-time faculty in the division; this documentation is due each February at a date specified by the EVP.See to it that all new part-time faculty are evaluated by students.Make periodic observation of faculty as time and circumstance allow.

D.     Budgeting

Advise the EVP each Spring regarding budget needs for the coming fiscal year.Monitor the official operating budget for the division.Review all professional travel requests within the division.Advise the EVP regarding the transfer of money within the division's operating budget.Review all requisitions within the division.

E.     Scheduling

Coordinate and evaluate the development of the class schedule each semester as requested by the EVP.Assist the EVP with the development of the annual calendar.Advise the EVP at the beginning of each semester regarding low enrollment classes that should be considered for cancellation.

F.     Managing the Division

Conduct division meetings as needed.Coordinate the ordering of new textbooks each semester.Approve the appointment of and supervise student workers for the division.Represent their academic division, as requested by the EVP, or President, by attending specific Board meetings. Since Board meetings are open to the public, Division Chairs are welcome to attend all Board meetings.Review and take appropriate action on faculty leave forms.Act as a mediator in conflicts between students and faculty, between faculty, or with support staff.Coordinate the assignment of student scholarship funds for the division with the office of financial aid.Review Academic Appeals cases referred by the Vice President for Student Services against any faculty under their supervision.

G.   Working with Administration

Submit information requested by the President or three Vice Presidents.Participate in meetings called by the EVPParticipate in the annual revision of the College catalog.Participate in the "Ad Hoc" projects as assigned by the EVP

4. Other Qualifications/Requirements:

Qualified individuals must hold a Master's degree in Nursing with an Arkansas unencumbered registered nurse license; must have previous experience in nursing clinical practice and education (ASBN and ACEN requirements); and must have previous administrative experience including experience with accreditation of nursing programs.Community college teaching and administrative experience is preferred.  The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy; student learning, retention, and student success; assessment of student learning; curriculum development; and using technology in the classroom.  The successful candidate will also have either experience in teaching online courses or a willingness to develop the skills needed to do so.
